Bible verses for when you are afraid
Last reviewed
The instruction not to be afraid appears throughout the Bible, and almost always in a setting where fear was entirely reasonable — before a battle, at a border, in a storm, in prison.
That makes these passages more useful, not less. They are not claims that there is nothing to be afraid of. They are things said to people who had good reason to be.

1But now the LORD who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel, says: “Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine. 2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burnt, and flame will not scorch you.

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
