Not a substitute for care
Scripture has been a genuine comfort to people for a very long time, and it does not do the work of a doctor, a therapist, a crisis line, a safeguarding service or a person who knows you. Reading a verse and seeking help are not alternatives, and choosing to get help takes nothing away from anyone’s faith.
Not personal direction
Verses shown at random, or as a verse of the day, are selected by a published, mechanical method described on the selection page. They are not messages chosen for your situation, answers to questions you were holding, or instructions about decisions you are facing.
Not a theological authority
This site is not affiliated with any denomination and does not claim pastoral or scholarly authority. Editorial notes describe where a passage sits and who it was addressed to; they do not tell you what it means for you. Where traditions differ, that is stated rather than resolved.
Nothing here blames you
Anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, illness and abuse are not presented anywhere on this site as failures of faith, and no page suggests that enough belief would have prevented them.
Accuracy
Verse text is served from a stored, checksummed copy of a published translation and is validated before every deployment. Errors remain possible. Report anything that looks wrong — text accuracy reports are treated as urgent.
