What is stored in your browser

Two things, both in localStorage, both under your control and neither transmitted anywhere:

• Saved verses— the reference, text and translation of anything you save, plus the date you saved it. Clear them at any time from the saved verses page.
• Text size preference— a single number recording how large you like Scripture text.

Clearing your browser data removes both. Nothing else is written to your device, and no cookie is set for tracking.

What travels in the URL

Your translation choice and the last few passages you were shown appear in the page address, so that “another verse” can avoid repeating itself and a shared link shows what the sender was reading.

This is why full verse text is never placed in a URL: addresses end up in browser history, in server logs and in referrer headers, and a person’s Scripture reading is not something to scatter across those.

What the server records

This site has its own event table, separate from the visitor counter described under Third parties. It is currently switched off entirely. When enabled, the only fields recorded are an event type (“random verse”, “topic view”), a broad page category, a topic id, a translation id and a timestamp.

There is deliberately no session identifier, no user identifier, no IP address, no user agent and no referrer in that table, which means the records cannot be joined together or traced back to a person. A mood selection cannot be linked to a search, or to you.

Search terms that return no results may be recorded, without any identifier, so that gaps in coverage can be found and filled.

Standard web server logs exist as a technical necessity. They are not used for profiling and are not combined with anything above.

What is never stored

• Prayer requests or any free-text description of how you feel.
• A history of which moods or situations you have looked at.
• Your search history.
• Your saved verses, unless you one day opt in to syncing them.

If you report an error

An error report stores what you type: the page, the verse and translation identifiers, the issue type, your description, and any supporting source. An email address is optional, is used only to reply about that report, and is only requested when you tick the box.

The form is rate limited and uses a hidden honeypot field to reduce automated submissions. Neither requires a cookie.

Third parties

There is exactly one: Ahrefs Web Analytics, a visitor counter. It tells us how many people read a page and roughly where they arrived from. It is the only external script on this site.

Ahrefs state that it sets no cookies, does not track people across sites, and does not collect personal data. That is their claim about their product rather than ours, and their privacy policy is the authoritative statement of it.

What is true regardless of any vendor’s claims, and worth saying plainly: loading a script from another company’s server means your browser makes a request to that server, and that request carries your IP address, as every web request does. If you would rather it did not run, any content blocker will stop it, and nothing on this site depends on it — every page works identically without it.

It is not given your mood or topic choices, your searches, or your saved verses. It counts page views.

Fonts are served from this site’s own servers rather than a font CDN, so no font host sees your visit. There is no advertising network, no embedded video and no social media widget.

If Cloudflare Turnstile is enabled for spam protection on the report form, it is used only on that form, and its use is stated on the form itself.

Your rights

Because no account exists and nothing identifies you, there is generally nothing held about you to access, correct or delete. If you submitted an error report with an email address and would like it removed, ask and it will be.
