Bible verses for strength

A surprising number of the Bible's best-known passages about strength are actually about running out of it. Paul writes about a weakness he asked three times to be rid of. Isaiah writes to people who were worn out. The psalmists frequently describe themselves as failing.
That is why this page does not read like a motivational poster. Passages that acknowledge exhaustion are included alongside passages of confidence, because both appear in the text and people arrive here in both states.
One frequently quoted line — "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" — sits at the end of a passage about learning to cope with having plenty and with having very little. The context note on that entry says so, because the sentence is regularly used to mean something close to the opposite.
