This page makes one editorial decision worth stating plainly. Several proverbs about discipline are routinely quoted in support of physical punishment of children. Interpretation of those passages is heavily contested, physical punishment of children is unlawful in a number of jurisdictions, and safeguarding guidance is clear. They are therefore not included in this selection.
The passages that are here concern teaching, patience, blessing and the ordinary work of raising people.
