Bible verses about patience
Last reviewed
English uses one word where the biblical languages tend to use two ideas: staying steady over a long stretch of time, and holding back from retaliating against a person.
Both are represented here. Where a passage clearly means one rather than the other, the context note says which, so that a line about enduring hardship is not accidentally read as advice about a difficult colleague.

7Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. 8You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, 23gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
rejoicing in hope, enduring in troubles, continuing steadfastly in prayer,
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.
Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance;
He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.
Better is the end of a thing than its beginning. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud,
but those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
