Bible verses for new beginnings
Last reviewed
Beginnings in the Bible are usually less clean than the phrase suggests. People set out without knowing the destination, return to rebuild something that was destroyed, or start again after a failure that is described rather than hidden.
That is the register of the passages below. They suit a genuine new start better than a slogan would.
Several of the best-known ones were originally about a nation rather than an individual — a return from exile, a rebuilt city. The context notes say so, which does not make them less usable, only more accurately read.

1For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. I waited patiently for the LORD. He turned to me, and heard my cry. 2He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand. 3He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God. Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Behold, the former things have happened and I declare new things. I tell you about them before they come up.”
